Traditions and Customs of Ecuador
Ecuador has several traditions and customs, which stand out as a national identity. They have remained over time, and it has become a cultural heritage. These traditions manifest multinationality and multiculturalism, which extend throughout the entire national territory, which is organized in 24 provinces and 4 natural regions, according to the political map of Ecuador.
CUSTOMS AND TRADITIONS - SIERRA
The Diablada of Píllaro - Sierra
La Diablada (Innocents Festival) is a unique cultural expression in the country, currently declared Intangible Cultural Heritage of Ecuador; their games (groups of participants from different communities) are made up of various characters (devils, guarichas line couples, capariches) who, to the rhythm of village bands, perform their dance both in their communities of origin and in the main streets of the Píllaro canton.
It is a ritual that is performed in Ecuador, this traditional celebration of the indigenous peoples, is known as the festivities of the sun and appreciation of the harvest, coincides with the festivities of San Pedro. This ancestral festival has its origins in the Andean communities. These celebrations take place in June and July.
The dance of the ribbons or Tucumán is a dance performed by a fabric with 12 ribbons in the center there is a vertical wood supported by other characters who do not participate in the dance, said stick is called maguey, it has a size of 5 m in height . In the upper part of the pole is hoisting the flag of Ecuador, which at the same time is called the flag, it can be seen that 12 ribbons hang from the top of said pole so that the dancers make the weaving while they dance, the ribbons can arrive to measure 7 m in length.

The rodeo montubio is a tradition born of the cowboys who are inhabitants of the rural areas of the Ecuadorian coast. This event is the perfect opportunity to demonstrate the skills of the rider, these skills are learned in their daily work. A competition where the best cowboy gets a prize.
Fiesta de la Chonta
It is one of the most important events in the Shuar culture and represents the entire biological cycle of the plant (chonta). This event takes place in the month of May when the fruit is harvested. Among the leading communities of this ceremony we have San Luis de Iñimkis, Ángel Ruby, among other Shuar communities.
